New York is known for its divine diversity…just
take a look around! Even more fun? A weekend full of fabulous fests! Tasty food
and performing arts make for a truly diverse weekend the whole family will
adore. —
At the Thunderbird
American Indian Mid-Summer Pow Wow at the Queens Country Farm Museum, watch representatives from over 40
Native American tribes show off their culture (and amazing colors) in dance
competitions. You can also peruse hand-made jewelry and crafts. Or head down to
Chinatown to the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) for their Dragon
Boat Festival Family Day. Learn all about this traditional Chinese holiday
while crafting sweet-smelling sachets, dragon puppets and more. For Latin
flair, try the
Junta Hispana: Hispanic Heritage Celebration in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Twenty different
Spanish-speaking countries will represent their food, dance, and crafts at this
huge festival for the whole family.
More in
the mood to put on your own dancing shoes? Then check out Great
Jazz on the Great Hill in Central Park. Listen to jazz and learn the right
way to move from a swing dance pro. If you forget your picnic basket, hot food
will be available from Spoonbread Restaurant. Lincoln Center is also hosting free tunes for
the family at their annual Out
of Doors Family Day concert. Sashay to soul music, dance in a drum circle,
groove to gospel tunes and more at this free outdoor concert.
P.S. Looking to plan ahead? Adore the zoo? Glad we’re on the same page! MasterCard carriers only have until Monday, August 1 to sign up for next weekend’s (August 6-7) Bronx Zoo sleepover. Roast marshmallows, sleep under the stars and go on a nature walk! (And that’s just the beginning).
