Weekend Planner July 8-10

After a breezy work week, the weekend is thankfully
upon us again. (Hey, it’s summer, we can be greedy!) From a French festival to
a Joanie Leeds concert, we’ve sifted through the best to bring you our favorite
weekend happenings. —

FESTS This
Saturday will mark the first of three consecutive weekends when the Children’s
Museum of the Arts will host its Charlton
Street Festival
. This free event, a celebration of the CMA’s
soon-to-be hub, will include stop motion animation workshops, mural making, and
music. Members of Collab, a think tank and fabrication laboratory, will be
leading a program on how to create your own drawstring tote bag and the New
York City Fire Museum will
demonstrate proper fire safety techniques. Be sure to check out the Bike New
York program (this Saturday only!),
for a kids’ clinic on how to ride a bicycle. On Sunday, head over to 60th
Street (between 5th and Lexington Avenues) for Bastille
Day
, the largest public celebration commemorating France’s own Independence
Day. Families will be able to engage in all-things-frances including French cuisine, games, and music. A “Kids Corner”
booth will feature face painting and a tutorial on how to play the classic
French game pétanque (bocce!).

FAMILY
DAYS
On Sunday, the Center for Architecture Foundation will host a Family
Day
where families with children between the ages of 5 and 13 can peruse
the Center’s new exhibit, “Glimpses of New York and Amsterdam in 2040.” Also on
Sunday, join SummerStage for their free Family
Day
in Central Park. Kick
back with live music, workshops, and puppetry. Live performances include The Verve
Pipe and The Brooklyn Steppers.

MUSEUMS On Saturday, a Collaborative
Art Day
will be held at the Queens Museum of Art. Catch the featured works of
many talented professionals while young Picassos participate in hands-on art
workshops. On Sunday morning, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan will
host a Nick
Jr.’s Team Umizoomi
day. Fans will be able to watch a sneak-peek of a
never-before-seen episode! Finally on Sunday afternoon, Joanie
Leeds and the Nightlights
will perform at the Jewish Museum.
