Whitby School in Greenwich, Connecticut named Dr. John “Jack” Creeden as its Interim Head of School on July 15. Creeden was chosen from a pool of distinguished candidates for his experience and leadership in independent schools. He was recently Head of School at Chadwick School, an independent K-12 school in California, and previously served as president of School Year Abroad, where he was responsible for the leadership and administration of the school’s one-year language immersion program in four schools in China, France, Italy, and Spain. Creeden served as the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Association of Independent Schools from 2012-2015.
“Jack’s passionate commitment to character development, global citizenship and experiential learning make him an excellent leader for Whitby School,” said Deepa Javeri, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Jack is naturally collaborative – a leadership attribute we all agreed was essential in our next Head of School. We are confident that Jack’s experienced and steady stewardship will help Whitby continue to thrive for many years to come.”
Creeden said he feels fortunate to come into the Whitby community.
“Whitby stands alone in this area for teaching a Montessori and IB curriculum that is recognized across the world for excellence, global citizenship, and developing a passion for learning among students,” Creeden said. “Beginnings are important, and Whitby’s singular focus is to create a solid foundation for students that will preparing them for success in secondary school, the university and later life.”
Whitby School was founded in 1958 and focuses on inspiring a passion for learning in its students. Whitby students are encouraged to develop into open-minded, principled citizens in the global community through the International Baccalaureate curriculum.
