Whitestone Lanes, a Queens bowling alley, offers bowling leagues for kids. This fall, the Flushing bowling alley will offer a minion-themed bowling club for kids on Saturday mornings.
For more than 55 years, Whitestone Lanes has offered bowling leagues for parents and children of all ages. Starting Sept. 19, the Minion’s Bowling Club offered to children ages 4 and older will focus on the basics of bowling and provide children with a character bowling ball of their choice to keep. Despicable Me characters and the Yankees logo are among the various images children can choose from. Along with instructions in bowling technique, children participating in the program will also receive their choice of a hot dog or slice of pizza for lunch.
The Minion’s Bowling Club will be held every Saturday morning from 10am-12pm for 16 weeks. Once children become more comfortable bowling with or without bumpers, they will increase the weight of bowling balls allowing kids to get stronger, says owner Lisa Macaluso. Children are encouraged to order their character bowling ball at the end so they may continue using the same weight once the program is finished.
In past years, Whitestone Lanes has also offered other programs including Superman Bowling Club and the NFL Bowling League for children. Programs are about “making new friends and learning how to bowl,” Macaluso says.
Open seven days a week, 24 hours a day, Whitestone Lanes also hosts other events throughout the year, including corporate parties and seniors club bowling leagues. Parents can host children’s parties on weekends allowing children to bowl with friends and spend time in the party room. Depending on which birthday package is purchased, children and teenagers can enjoy food, drinks, and goodie bags.
