This month, an 8,700-square-foot Pediatric Specialty Center opened at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital at Greenwich Hospital. The facility has a number of unique specialists including allergy/ immunology, cardiology, craniofacial surgery, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and hematology.
This really is only possible because of the affiliation with the Yale New Haven Health System and the Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. These subspecialties for pediatrics is an amazing asset for this community,” says Diane Kelly, chief operating officer at Greenwich Hospital. “There’s a limited amount of [these specialists] so we feel really grateful to have them here.”
The staff consists of registered nurses, social workers, psychologists, dietitians, and more than 20 different types of pediatric specialists. All the physicians are part of Yale Medicine, which is affiliated with Yale University, though not all the have doctors attended Yale.
“It’s definitely a name that you would look [at], and, as a consumer, have confidence in the clinical competence,” Kelly says.
In addition to the quality of care, the décor of the facility is child-friendly and entertaining. There’s an interactive screen that changes colors and produces different images when touched. There are educational games as well as interactive images of animals and greenery. The colors are vivid and designed with children’s comfort and entertainment in mind.
