Guests like Dean Bladino, NFL’s VP of officiating, joined students from P.S. 189 last Thursday to celebrate the opening of the ”You Make the Call: Learn to be a NFL Official” exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan. The museum’s latest exhibit encourages New York’s littlest spectators to join in the city’s excitement for Super Bowl XLVIII. With the help of interactive activities, children are able to step into the shoes, and black and white jerseys, of some of the NFL’s most important figures: the referees.
The exhibit, definitely a hit with the kids, allowed the excited participants from P.S. 189 to make their own flag, do the” Zebra dance” (which is based on the referees’ game signals), and run an obstacle course to score a touchdown. The latter activity was particularly popular, as many little ones got right back in line after receiving a post-touchdown high five from one of the Museum’s “referees.” But “You Make Call” isn’t just reserved for younger fans. Adults too can enjoy “going under the hood” at the replay booth to make tough decisions about some of the season’s most challenged plays.
Part of CMOM’s EatSleepPlay initiative to prevent childhood obesity, “You Make the Call” encourages young ones to experience how valuing focus, leadership, and physical health can lead to success. The exhibit will be open until February 28th, and features weekly programming and clinics, so make sure to check the website for more details.
