T. Schreiber Studio for Theatre and Film in Midtown paired up with celebrity acting coach Denise Simon in September to create a fun but effective Youth Acting Program for children ages 8-11 and 12-16.
Simon has been teaching acting classes for 30 years and T. Schreiber was established in 1969.
“Why should kids take acting classes?” asks Simon. “It will build their confidence, they can speak in public, they’ll learn collaboration and team building. They’ll learn life skills that most kids don’t have just by being exposed to the performing arts.”
Small class sizes of 6-12 students are held on Saturdays in a safe and nurturing environment. Students will begin by learning the fundamentals of acting, building character and working with scenes, then audition skills and a performance. Towards the end of the year, students will put on a showcase for their families and industry guests on scenes of their choice.
Sally Dunn, managing director of T. Schreiber, says “The studio has been around for a while, and we’ve been looking to join forces with a master young people program person. We’re happy we found Denise and we are thrilled that she really knows what she’s doing.”
The program focuses on teaching children adult concepts in a way they can understand it. For one of the classes, students will do voice overs of their favorite cartoons!
The program is split into three semesters during the school year. The fall semester, Intro to Truthful Acting, which already began, ends on December 8. On Camera Audition Technique in the winter runs from January 5 2019-March 23. The Spring semester, Performance Skills, begins on March 30 and ends on June 8.
Students can join any semester, although the classes do build upon eachother. Parents can register their children on the T. Schreiber website.
