On Saturday, Youth Over Guns student organization will march in support of gun violence prevention. The march will begin in Brooklyn, go over the Brooklyn Bridge, and end in Manhattan for an anti-gun rally. The event is hosted by Youth Over Guns, a gun violence prevention organization in New York City.
The organization, founded by NYC public school student Ramon Contreras after the national school walkout on March 14, is dedicated to ending the epidemic of gun violence in underserved communities of color.The students from the organization will be joined by a local gun violence prevention organizations, gun violence survivors, advocates, and community leaders to call for an end to daily gun violence. Speakers include Aalayah Eastmond, a Parkland survivor, Eldridge Brown, a 14-year-old gun violence survivor, Zion Kelly, March For Our Lives D.C. key speaker and high school senior, and more.
The event, which marks the beginning of New York state’s Gun Violence Awareness Month, will begin with musical performances at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Brooklyn at noon. Protesters will then march across the Brooklyn Bridge to Foley Square in Manhattan for a 2 p.m. rally.
