In an effort to encourage parents to get their kids the COVID vaccine, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio kicked off Youth Vax Week with new incentives. On June 2, Mayor de Blasio announced the Youth Vax Block Parties, which will be hosted by popular parks in each borough. Families who attend these events will receive the Pfizer vaccine while enjoying food, music, and other activities.
New York is encouraging mass vaccination because, as Mayor de Blasio puts it, “the more New Yorkers who get vaccinated and protect one another, the closer we will be to moving on from this pandemic and getting back to the people and the activities that we love.”
We all know New Yorkers love having fun—whether at a museum, the beach, an amusement park, or the latest popup—and as Dave A. Choski, M.D., commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, affirms, “vaccination offers young people a chance to more safely enjoy the summer.”
